Chef Hat
In
order to distinguish a chef from the rest of the kitchen
staff an individual jacket can be worn. This clothing
that is worn by chefs throughout the world is very distinctive.
Generally you will find that the jacket is white in
colour and these jackets can be purchased from various
establishments.
There are many different places which you can buy a
jacket such as shops on the high street or even online
where you would be more likely to find a wider choice.
It’s also worth noting that a chef’s jacket can be made
out of different material’s.
Whilst the basic design of jackets is generally the
same, there are little ‘extras’ which may be different.
Such examples of these are the buttons which run down
the front of the jacket or the different styles of cuffs.
It’s also quite common for a jacket to have a large
sized pocket on the front.
There are different colours of jackets which usually
depend on the place in which you are working. There are
all sorts of different colours available and it may
even be possible to have something embroidered on the
front. This helps set a certain amount of individuality
to the coat and chef.
There are also many different fabrics from which the
jackets are made, each to cope with the different requirements
and environments in which the chef is working. Examples
of these fabrics are Egyptian cotton, an Executive cotton
style, the basic cotton chef coat and a poly cotton
chef coat. Consideration is also given to the female
chef when designing certain coats.
It is usual for long sleeved jackets to have turned
back French cuffs. As already mentioned, it’s also possible
to purchase short sleeved shirts which obviously offer
less protection to the arms. Along with the buttons
and the large side pocket, the jacket easily distinguishes
the wearer to be a chef!
Generally a chef will wear an apron but upon leaving
the kitchen to enter public areas this will be removed
to unveil a clean pristine jacket. This is an important
statement regarding their chef apparel.
