Commercial Cooking Equipment

When eating out the average person will probably think that the equipment used to prepare their food is the same as at home. Although there are many similarities, the equipment in restaurants is designed more towards mass production.

A perfect example is the refrigerator and the way in which it differs to that which you may find at home. The kind which we use at home are generally the upright 2 door type. The relative types of food such as meat and fish will be stored in the freezer compartment, whereas such products as eggs and soft drinks may be stored in the refrigerator.

The type of freezer used in a restaurant would be sized much more like a small room with a large door. It needs to be large enough to store foods to keep the restaurant running for at least a few days. The main reason behind this kind of design is so that the day’s food stores can be kept fresh, therefore avoiding the need to be constantly restocking food levels.

Stove’s can often be very different as well with the one’s used in a commercial kitchen often having up to 8 hobs. This enables the use of multiple hobs at once, ensuring that different foods can be cooked all together, at the same time.

The cookers at home will generally only have up to 4 hobs. The oven section is generally split up into to 4 sections by the use of wire trays. You would normally only be able to cook up to one large turkey in a conventional oven. This shows that are actually major differences between domestic and commercial cooking appliances.

One other major change between the two types of cooking is the use of a hotplate to keep food warm. At home the food would be served straight from the oven to the table, whereas in a commercial establishment the food would be kept on a hot plate to keep it warm before it can be delivered to the relevant table.

As you can see commercial cooking equipment is very helpful in such establishments and there are many different varieties available, dependant on the requirements. When given a good deal of thought the correct equipment can be extremely valuable and can increase value tenfold.
